Deception's End

Today I would like to introduce you to a band from Illinois called Deception's End. They are a Christian Rock / Praise and worship band. I was able to ask them a few questions so that you can get to know them better. Also make sure you check out their music on ReverbNation.

Can you give us a little background history on how  got started?

Our band is made up of four different worship leaders from several churches in the south suburbs of Chicago.  We got our start jamming out worship tunes and making them our own. Since then we've started to write our own music but will always have a love for worship.

Will you introduce us to the band members, and what instrument each of you play?

Mike Gucwa - Drums
Shaun Ashley - Lead Guitar
Steve Evans - Vocals
Charlton Young - Guitar
Alex Davis - Bass Guitar

Where did the name Deception's End come from, and what does it mean?

It was a name that our drummer came up with as a metaphor for his own life.  He had a history with drug and alcohol abuse and was tired of pretending to be someone he wasn't.  He described it as living a life of lies, or wearing multiple masks, to fit in with whatever situation he was in.  After a huge smack in the face from God, he felt called back to the church and no longer wanted to hide the fact that he was a Christian.  The name has been fitting as several of the guys in our band have had addictive backgrounds and wanted to break away from those deceptions and live for Christ.

Who are some of the bands musical influences?

We are such an interesting mix of styles and influences.  It ranges from great 90's rock to prog rock/metal to hard rock to classical.  We're still figuring out who we are but that's the beauty of music.

What is the main message that you are trying to share with your music?

There is life to be lived, and it's found through the redemption we are given by Christ.  Our band is just a bunch of sinners who are trying to live for God.  We've been through tough situations in life but we can all take off those masks and be who God designed us to be.

What band and/or artist would you love to collaborate with?

It would be awesome to connect with any of the hard rock Christian bands out there like RED or Ashes Remain.

Where is your favorite venue/place you have played?

Surprising enough, we really enjoy surprising people and playing worship only sets in random bars/pubs.  Despite the fact that we get a few "weird looks" we love ministering in places that some might consider strange.  We've had some great opportunities to talk with patrons after we play our sets about Christ and that is what we are all about.

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

You are not defined by your past failures.
