More Than Rubies - Self Titled Album Review
More Than Rubies released their first full-length album yesterday (April 23rd). Below is my review for their self titled album More Than Rubies. You can also enter to win a copy of this album here.
More Than Rubies is made up of musicians Christa Wells & Nicole Witt. The band has a acoustic folk/pop sound that is simple but beautiful. Sometimes less is more and in that statement is proven true with this album. With mostly piano driven songs More Than Rubies for the most part has a slower more worshipful sound. However there are also a couple songs that are more upbeat and a little more fun.
I was really impressed by this album, I am not normally a big fan of slower songs if they have female vocalists, but this album is an exception. More Than Rubies has such a convincing sound that makes you believe what they are singing. Plus both Christa & Nicole have beautiful voices that really compliment each other.
A lot of the songs on the album have a sort of melancholy sound, that can be attributed mainly to the violins and piano. Having the mix of both those instruments with the vocals all combined together makes a very alluring album. Which really sucked me in and made me a fan of More Than Rubies sound.
Both Christa and Nicole are very talented musicians and I think their talent really shines on this album. I can't wait to hear more music from them in the future. In the meantime I would highly recommend this album, giving it 4 out of 5 stars.
Album Favorite: I would say that my favorite song is probably "Coming Into The Light" because has a lot of attitude, a great beat and some country twang.
