The album starts off with the self titled track "God Of Love". The song introduces you to TLisa's sound, which is somewhat similar to that of Mandisa. Although TLisa's songs have a bit more of a church worship band vibe than Mandisa's do.
God Of Love is an album full of stories. Each song tells it's own story and draws you in. For that reason I was quite impressed by the song writing skill that is showcased throughout this album. I was able to really get something out of each song, one of my favorite lyrics being...
"I'm so lonely, don't feel You near
Wrapped up in so much sin
That I can't even see clearly
Don't even know how to talk to You
Got to find a way out
Cause You're the only person
I just can't live without"
This album is a pretty straightforward worship album, however the song "God Answers Prayer" did surprise me a little, in a good way. The song started off and then out of no where there is this techno beat that gets you tapping your toes. I love being surprised so this was a nice little treat on the album, along with the reading of Psalm 23 towards the end of the album.
All in all this "God Of Love" is a good album, for a debut album. It just shows that TLisa has some true talent in song writing as well as singing. There is still room for improvement, but it is a good CD. I always love hearing an artists first album because it gives you an idea of what they have to offer.
I would recommend this album to fans of Mandisa, Natalie Grant & Jamie Grace.
